Description
9" (23 cm.) head circumference. 11" length. Solid domed bisque head with flanged neck, deeply sculpted baby hair with defined topknot and forelock curls, small bue glass sleep eyes, dark eyeliner and ochre eye shadow, tinted brows, accented nostrils, closed mouth with extended center line, classic muslin baby body as designed for the Bye-lo,celluloid hands, with original rayon silk-like suit including wire-framed "wings" and cap. Condition: generally excellent, some spotting on costume. Marks: copr. by Grace S. Putnam Germany 30. Comments: the Fly-lo Baby, designed by Putnam in the late 20s as at attempt to revive the flagging Bye-lo market; the doll was likely encouraged by public fascination with aviation, but at any rate few models were ever made and the doll is quite rare. Value Points: the rarer glass-eyed version of Fly-lo,has original costume, and absolutely superior sculpting of hair with very richly-defined details, fine luminous patina of the bisque.
