Description
18" (46 cm.) 20" head circumference. Solid domed bisque head with flanged neck,sculpted short bobbed hair with bangs in carrot-red color,large brown glass sleep eyes,dark eyeliner,painted curly lashes,tinted brows,rounded nose with accented nostrils,closed mouth with shaded lips,defined philtrum and lip corner dimples,muslin torso and upper legs,composition jointed arms and lower legs,antique romper dress,leggings,stocks,shoes. Condition: generally excellent. Marks: copr. by Grace C. Rockwell Germany. Comments: designed by the American artist Grace Corry Rockwell,the doll was trademarked as "Pretty Peggy",according to the Borgfeldt catalog of 1927 who commissioned the doll from Germany; it was created as a wigged version (see lot #365) or in this sculpted hair version with either brown or this,very rare,red hair,the doll represented the American "new modern" child of the era. Value Points: rare-to-find doll designed by known artist with rare red hair,beautifully- painted features,made for two years only.
