10" (25 cm.) Bisque socket head with very plump cheeks and chin,amber brown glass
paperweight inset eyes,dark eyeliner,painted lashes,feathered brows,accented nostrils,closed
mouth with outlined lips,pierced ears,blonde mohair wig over cork pate,French composition
and wooden fully-jointed body. Condition: generally excellent. Marks: Paris Bebe Tete Depose
1 (and incised 1 and artist checkmarks on head) (Eiffel tower stamp on body). Comments:
Emile Jumeau,circa 1890,the model was created by Jumeau to document his tradename rights
to the name "Paris Bebe" after winning his lawsuit against Danel & Cie; Jumeau also won the
remaining stock of the Danel firm including bodies stamped with the Eiffel Tower mark,which
he used for his own dolls. Value Points: considered the first model of the 200 character
series by Jumeau,with highly characterized facial expression,the doll is most rare to find,and
virtually unobtainable in this size 1,has lovely ivory silk satin early
dress,undergarments,stockings,brown kidskin shoes with silk rosettes,and a superb woven
bonnet with ivory satin trim by Jumeau.
