8" (20 cm.) Bisque socket head depicting a little girl with puckered lips as though about to bestow a kiss,having blue glass sleep eyes,painted upper curly lashes,short feathered brows,accented nostrils of upturned nose,closed mouth with puckered lips,impressed cheek dimples,blonde mohair wig,five piece paper mache body,wearing charming folklore costume,shoes,red velvet cap and carrying little purse. Condition: generally excellent. Marks: 11173 4/0 Heubach (square) Germany. Comments: Gebruder Heubach,circa 1927,the model was commissioned for George Borgfeldt,the doll design was by the German-born American artist Hy Mayer who copyrighted the doll in 1927 according to information in the Borgfeldt catalog of that year. Henry "Hy" Mayer was a cartoonist for Universal Studios from 1913- 1920,and designed the "Such is Life" film series from 1920-1926. Value Points: the very rare and charming doll has added appeal from its American-artist design background.
