15" (38 cm.) Bisque head with flanged neck depicting a cat,with painted shaded tawny "fur"
and having sculpted ears with shaded black lining,green glass sleep eyes with dark eye
shadow around the complete socket,black nose tip,shaded rose cheeks with painted whisker
tips,open mouth in "meow" pose,movable tonque,two teeth,muslin stitch-jointed body,cotton
dress,shoes,and carrying wicker basket with two little mice. Condition: generally excellent.
Marks: 1005/1405/30 (factory ink label low on flange neck). Comments: "Allie Kat" and her
companion dog,were designed by the American artist Georgene Averill,of Portland,Oregon
and later of New York City,whose involvement in the doll industry included bisque doll
designs for the George Borgfeldt firm where she was employed for some time,as well as
designs for composition and cloth dolls created in her own firms of Averill Dolls and Madame
Hendren Dolls. Allie Kat was made in Germany,circa 1925,and was created in either white or
tawny color; few examples appear to have been made based on its rarity. Value Points: rare
and delightful animal doll designed by American artist is wonderfully preserved.
