15" (38 cm.) Bisque socket head,small brown glass sleep eyes,painted curly lashes,incised eyeliner,short feathered brows,accented nostrils and eye corners,closed mouth with wide smile,row of sculpted and painted teeth between the accented lips,blonde mohair wig,composition and wooden ball-jointed body. Condition: generally excellent. Marks: 129. Comments: Adolf Wizlizensus,circa 1911,the firm advertised a series of art character child in that year,indicating that they were available with either painted or sleep eyes (see lot # 320 of this catalog for painted eye version of the same model). The series appeared under their trade name "Gretchen",and this actual model was shown in their advertisement for that year. Value Points: extremely rare model whose beautiful expression includes deeply-impressed cheeks and chin dimples enhanced by finest quality of bisque and painting.
