12" (30 cm.) Bisque shoulder head depicting a mischievous rascal,having sculpted brown
boyish hair beneath a sculpted blue and white striped cap with black brim,very chubby face
with uniquely-sculpted eyes,the right eye googly-shaped with down-glancing iris,and the left
eye modeled as "winking",being nearly closed with just the squint of the eye,one stroke
brows,tiny nose,tiny closed side-slant mouth to accompany the squinting eye,muslin stitch-
jointed body,composition hands,white woolen costume. Condition: generally excellent,two
tiny flakes at bottom edge of back shoulder plate. Marks: Made in Germany ges 246 gesch
12/0. Comments: Gebruder Knoch,circa 1910. The exact doll is shown in the book The
History and Art of Googlies,page 102. Value Points: very rare character with captivating
mischievous expression,rarity factors include sculpted cap,winking eye,unusual mouth,and
superb detail of sculpting such as deeply-impress lip dimples and eye creases.
