Description
3" shoulder width. 5" waist. 10" skirt length. Of
a fine nubby-textured bronze bengaline silk,the
box-pleated skirt has a high waist defined by
oval-shaped cut-outs that are bordered in red
cashmere wool; the designe is repeated at the hem
with a further border of narrow pleats. There is a
red cashmere wool sleeveless blouse,a bengaline
capelet with oval cuts,and two detachable
sleevelets with red bow ties. The ensemble is
decorated with individually-sewn black beads and
there is black beaded fringe on the capelet. The
costume is originally lined. There is some moth
damage and restoration on the cashmere. Circa 1860.
