Description
15" (38 cm.) All-wooden carved polychromed figure of dark complexioned man, sculpted brown fitted cap over black hair, sculpted thick black beard and moustache, brown enamel eyes (left eye opaque as though a cataract), deeply incised frown line, open mouth, one-piece head and torso, mortise and tenon-jointing at shoulders, elbows, hips and right knee, the left leg carved as though bent at knee and with dowel-attached artificial wooden leg, bare feet, original ragged costume. Condition: generally excellent. Genoese, early-1700s, attributed to the workshops of Anton Maria Maragliano, each body part has ink-lettered "P", extremely rare model with outstanding carving.
