Description
11" (28 cm.) x 8". Twenty seven loose pages present a variety of samples of needle art including sewing, embroidery, fabric repair, knitting, and stitching styles, each with hand lettered description at the top of each page, and are preserved in a leather bound folio with gilt lettered title "Establissement des Dames Ursulines a Tournay" indicating the needle art samples were created at that convent. The study of handwork was an important aspect of a young girl's genteel upbringing. Pages are somewhat rough at edges, and are loose in folio, the workmanship is beautifully preserved. Mid-1800s.
