Description
44" (112 cm.) h. x 30" w. x 18"d. The wooden house
features three stories plus an attic,with 9
interior rooms of which three are center hallway
rooms that front the working elevator that climbs
(manually) up and down the entire three floors.
The house is accessed by front opening panels and
the attic room is accessed by a small
front-opening separate door. There is a front
porch or balcony on each of the floors with
classic Gottschalk railing. At the middle of each
floor is a double door with faux-wood
finish,classic Gottschalk silver handles,and
classic Gottschalk cardboard panes. The doors are
centered by bay-shaped windows on each floor and
the house is decorated with tall windows having
painted panes,and luxury cameo medallions below
the windows. There is a porch with stairs,and an
original platform which is painted with foliage
and leaves. Patterned interior wall and floor
paper,and neatly fitted lace or silk curtains at
each window. Condition: generally excellent,some
tasteful refurbishment with authentic paints and
papers,the house is wired for electricity and
ceiling fixtures are added,one medallion missing.
Comments: Moritz Gottschalk,1910,the exact house
was shown in that firm's 1910 catalog including
the painted foliage. Value Points: exceptional
grand-sized house with rare working elevator,and
other luxury details such as balconies and bay
windows.
