10" (25 cm.) A sturdy box is lavishly decorated with decorative papers and embossed gilt edging,and opens to its well-fitted contents comprising 26 little boxes with colorfully-lithographed lids including a set of 12 representing the months of the year; along with a blue cushion,a larger faux-tortoise box with lithographed-scene at the center,and one other box. Some of the boxes hold little antique sewing supplies (gold pins,beads),indicating how the box was cherished after the candy was gone. Contents excellent,lid a bit worn. French,circa 1875.
