Description
15" (38 cm.) x 11". A wooden box with engraving
under glass on its lid encircled by gilt paper
borders contains an elaborately fitted interior.
The inside lid has a rich gilt-framed tilting
mirror,and the box itself contains seven smaller
boxes whose elaborate lids have red silk ribbon
trim,and rose paper lined interiors. There are
also three green velvet cushions with gilt
edging,and a sunken center box with framed mirror.
The center box has a penciled note on the
interior"M. Raffin gagne a la loterie" (Mr. Raffin
won at a lottery) giving a clue to its luxury
origin. Excellent condition. French,circa 1860,an
exceptional luxury sewing box.
