Description
30" (76 cm.) Seated in an elegantly-shaped woven
carriage with tinplate frame and fancily-spoked
wheels,is a beautiful bisque-head lady doll with
blue enamel eyes,painted features,closed
mouth,pierced ears,blonde mohair wig over cork
pate,shapely torso,metal hands,original bronze
green silk gown with teal blue trim and matching
bonnet. The carriage has a footman's seat at the
back upon which is perched a bisque-headed man
with original silk uniform,a trunk platform with
red leather trunk at the front centering a pair of
carriage lanterns,and a team of hide-covered
prancing horses with elaborate saddles and harness
upon which is seated another bisque-headed man
with sculpted moustache and goatee,wearing his
original silk costume,tall boots and tall black
hat. When wound and key removed,the carriage moves
forward and in circular motion,the lady nods head
and lifts and lowers her lorgnette,while the
driver and horses bob up and down. Condition:
generally excellent,mechanism functions well.
Comments: attributed to Vichy,circa 1870. Value
Points: superb luxury toy featuring three rare
early dolls in an elegant vignette scene with
charming mechanical action,wonderfully appropriate
for exhibition with French poupees.
