14" (36 cm.) cabinet. 11" x 9" cards. A wooden
mahogany cabinet with hinged drop font and shelved
interior contains 29 heavy-stock cards that are
covered with decorative papers and borders; each
card exhibiting a sample of a child's needlework
along with an artistically designed card labeling
the sample that is being shown. The samples
include lace work,embroidery work,mending,table
covers,linens,and,of particular note: four sample
cards of doll-sized nightwear or undergarments;
three sample cards of woven footwear,caps,or
purses; a sample card labeled"tablier soutache"
displaying an aqua silk apron with cream soutache
embroidery; and a sample card displaying a superb
sky-blue silk taffeta dress with tulle
sous-sleeves and blue soutache embroidery.
Excellent condition,some dustiness to
cards,original key is included. French,circa 1860.
