Description
15" (38 cm.) Pressed bisque socket head with very
plump cheeks and chin,amber brown glass
paperweight inset eyes,thick dark eyeliner,painted
lashes,mauve blushed eyeshadow,brush-stroked and
multi-feathered brows,accented eye corners,shaded
nostrils,closed mouth with defined space and
lightly-painted teeth between the shaded and
outlined lips,pierced ears,blonde lambswool
wig,all-wooden body with pin and dowel jointing at
the shoulders,elbows,hips,knees and ankles and
swivel-ball wrists. Condition: generally
excellent. Marks: (circle dot symbol on head) N 1
C 28 (body). Comments: the model marketed by Leon
Casimir Bru as Bebe Modele,the doll was made for 2
or 3 years only,circa 1880,and was one of the most
expensive luxury dolls offered by this firm that
was noted for luxury quality in each doll. Few
examples were ever made,and it is possible that
the number 28 refers to an actual series
production number. Value Points: very rare doll
with superb quality of facial sculpting especially
around the eyes and mouth,the rare body with fine
original finish has detailed-sculpting of
hands,fingers,palms of hands,and toes and is
beautifully-articulated. Her original dress is
included along with leather shoes signed C.M. and
woven straw hat.
