11" (28 cm.) l. Seated upon a tinplate tricycle
with very elaborate frame is a paper mache
Polichinelle with highly-characterized facial
features including hook nose and pointed
chin,ruddy complexion with painted features,white
mohair wig,distinctive humps at front and back
torso,paper mache legs,metal hands,and wearing
elaborate original costume with metallic fringe.
When wound,the wheels turn,he pedals,and the
tricycle moves forward and in circles. Condition:
generally excellent. Comments: French,possibly
Vichy or Theroude,circa 1850. Value Points:
delightful early mechanical toy featuring the
ever-charming Polichinelle figure; the tricycle
has elaborate scrollwork at the front with three
bells that tinkle when there is movement,colorful
original tricycle paint in yellow,red and
green,and a lattice-framed storage compartment at
the back.
