17" (43 cm.) Bisque swivel head on kid-edged bisque shoulder plate with voluptuous modeling of bosom,blue glass inset eyes,dark eyeliner,painted lashes,feathered brows,accented nostrils and eye corners,closed mouth with outlined lips,pierced ears,brunette mohair wig over cork pate,kid lady body that is very firmly shaped,bisque arms to above the elbows,the left arm bent at the elbow and fingers expressively posed,bisque lower legs with shapely ankles,applied high-heel shoes of aqua silk,hole in bottom of feet for posing,wearing lovely lace fashion dress,jewelry. Condition: generally excellent. Marks: R C Depose (bottom rim of shoulder plate). Comments: the"poupee-statuette" of Georges Cordonnier and Marie Radiquet,deposed in 1880,drew upon his background in the Parisian theatre world,was designed as a model for theatrical costume and design,rather than as child play. The Encyclopedia of French Dolls (page 153) notes that it"fused the world of the doll and the world of art".
