16" (41 cm.) Bisque swivel head on kid-edged bisque shoulder plate,two different faces appear on front and back of the head and are alternately revealed by pivoting the head and flipping the wig. One face depicts a gentle-faced bebe with delicate complexion,painted blue eyes,black painted lashes and feathered brows,accented nostrils and eye corners,and closed mouth with a row of painted teeth; the other face depicts a crying bebe with rosy complexion,painted narrowed eyes with decorative glaze,painted lashes,furrowed brows,accented eye corners and nostrils,"O" shaped closed mouth with a row of painted teeth between the shaded and accented lips; with blonde mohair fleecy wig,kid bebe body according to Bru depose pattern,bisque forearms and hands with separately sculpted fingers. Condition: generally excellent,repair to kid on right arm. Marks: (original Bru paper label on body). Comments: Leon Casimir Bru,circa 1880,this bebe model was based upon Bru's previously-deposed system for double-faced poupees; it appears to have been made for one or two years only. Value Points: largest size known of Bru's rare double-faced bebe has exceptional detail of sculpting and painting including row of sculpted teeth on each face and glazed highlights on eyes,very sturdy body with perfect hands,beautiful antique blue velvet costume,undergarments,lace bonnet,socks,and leather shoes signed "Bru Jne".
