Description
16" (41 cm.) h. 12" x 12" four-sided base. An
ebony-finished wooden base with rare four-sided
rounded-top glass dome displays an elaborate
luxury-model "globe de mariee" comprising a
scroll-legged platform with raised designs of six
playful Cupids on each side above a wreathed
acanthus border. A blue velvet pillow with gilt
metallic braid trim and metallic tassels at each
corner rests on the platform,and,in turn,displays
an elaborate wax orange blossom bridal crown with
deluxe details such as waxed star petal flowers.
Excellent condition. French,circa 1875,a 19th
century French tradition,the globe de mariee
preserved the wedding coronet or crown of the
bride,a memento of her wedding day to be displayed
for future years in the family salon.
