Description
12" (30 cm.) Solid domed paper mache swivel head of highly-characterized baby with paint black curly tendrils above the ears,black enamel eyes,feathered brows,accented nostrils,closed mouth with smiling expression,paper mache shoulder head,lower torso,hands and feet,wooden lower arms and legs,twill-covered midriff and upper limbs. The baby is deliberately loose-jointed to simulate a young enfant,and is wearing antique baby gown and bonnet. Condition: generally excellent,small repair in midriff fabric,mama bellows in torso working. Comments: Germany,circa 1855,the doll was inspired by the Japanese infant Ichimatsu doll shown at the London International Exposition in 1851. Value Points: rare and most endearing doll with all original body and painting. $900/1300
