Description
18" (46 cm.) Posed upon a nicely-shaped plinth is
an earthenware bust of a woman holding a mandolin
in her arms, her head downcast looking at the
strings, and thick impasto-style curls in her
topknot coiffure,and a stand-up "lace" collar to
match her "lace" cuffs; her blouse is hand-painted
with tiny flowers, and the mandolin has impressed
carving as does the locket suspended around her
throat. Superbly sculpted, the bust appears as
though it is carved wood with polychrome
hand-painted finish. Excellent condition except
end of mandolin handle is broken. Probably
German,circa 1890.
