9" (23 cm.) All-wooden doll with painted black hair and facial features,crudely-carved body with dowel-jointing at shoulders,elbows,hips and knees. Condition: generally excellent. Comments: Germany,circa 1875,the doll was costumed and presented for the English market. Value Points: a note attached to the front of the skirt is "Adele,Wales,1874",and a further note on the inside of the cape reads "Doll belonged to Cornelia J. Von Strolen,National Costume Wales (England) 1874,aunt of ...von Strolen,given by her to Dorothy W. Clatton"; the peddler doll is presented in well-detailed original costume including classic tall hat,and with her bird and bird cage squeek toy.
