Description
18" (46 cm.) Each is all hard-carved wood in the
folk-manner style with socket head,carved hair
with defined comb-marks,chiseled features with
unique expression on each face,dowel-jointing at
shoulders,elbows,hips and knees. Condition:
generally excellent. Comments: late 19th/early
20th century,unknown carver,probably Eskimo. Value
Points: artfully-carved figures with well-rendered
facial expressions,hair,articulation and each
wearing original native costume of
suede,kidskin,fur and bone,the woman with kidskin
back pack in which is resting a carved wooden baby
torso with jointed arms. The dolls were previously
featured on the cover of Quiet
Footsteps,Theriault's February 2002 catalog.
