15" (38 cm.) All-wooden carved polychromed figure of young woman with very strong angular features, brown carved hair waved loosely from her face into a rolled curl at the back that is captured into an up-swept top knot, large inset enamel eyes, carved very full lips, defined throat hollow, one-piece head and torso, dowel-jointing at shoulders, elbows, hips and knees, wearing exquisite ivory and gold silk gown with embroidered details, lace edging. Condition: generally excellent, three fingers and thumb broken on right hand. Genoese, late 1700s, attributed to the workshop of Pasquale Navone whose work included not only classical sculpting, but also creation of presepio, both in smaller size as this example, and in life-size mannequin size.
