7" (18 cm.) A firm-sided oval box with vertical woven tri-color reeds forming a cover has a leather-covered wooden handle and hinges open to a well-fitted compact interior,set against purple and cream interior papers and ribbons. Designed as a traveling service,the set comprises two silver saucers with matching goblets,four pewter spoons,silver lidded glass bottle,two napkin rings with napkins,linen cloths,and a silver biscuit tin. Also included is a domed wooden trunk with elaborate iron straps that hinge open at the lid and front to reveal a silver tea canister and silver tea strainer. The oval box is nearly identical to a signed example from Maison Giroux shown in The Encyclopedia of French Doll,by Theimer,page 254. Paris,circa 1865.
