Description
16" (41 cm.) h. 15"l. Arranged upon a tinplate three-wheeled base with original green painted
finish,is a hide-covered paper mache donkey upon which is posed a bisque-headed
lady,seated side-saddle. The lady has blue glass eyes,painted features,closed mouth,pierced
ears,blonde mohair wig,bisque shoulder plate,carton torso and legs,bisque forearms,and is
wearing a well-detailed silk costume and bonnet,wooden shoes; the donkey has glass
eyes,leather harness,and an attached very large wicker basket that is filled with turnips
(hidden on alternate side). When wound,the base moves along and then revolves,the lady
turns her head from side to side,and raises and her lowers arms as though urging the donkey
along. Condition: generally excellent,mechanism functions well. Comments: Vichy et Fils,circa
1870. Value Points: luxury toy featuring an especially beautiful bisque lady who is wearing her
original silk costume,unusual and charming romantic countryside.
