19" (48 cm.) Carved wooden socket head depicting an adult man with strong cheek and jaw
bones,pronounced nose,sculpted short brow hair with side-part and forelock curls,sculpted
ears,deeply-defined eye sockets with blue intaglio upper-glancing eyes,feathered
brows,closed mouth with solemn expression,all-wooden spring-jointed body,wearing antique
blue farmer overalls,shirt,tie,handkerchief,straw hat. Condition: head has very fine
professional restoration,body finish original and worn. Marks: Schoenhut Doll pat. Jan.
17,1911 USA. Comments: Schoenhut,the Manikin,advertised for use by "students of fine art or
as dressed figure for window display",appears to have been made for four years only,1914-
1918; named "Manikin" he was offered in four different costumes including Farmer. Value
Points: very rare model by the important American doll firm with distinctive and handsome
features.
