Description
17" (43 cm.) All-carved wood with one-piece head and torso, polychromed head carved as though looking to the side, deeply carved grey hair combed from face, over ears, and forming into a loose chignon at the back of head, enamel eyes, strong cheekbones and jaw line, closed mouth, mortise and tenon-jointing at shoulders, elbows, hips and knees, painted black boots, wearing silk costume with tapestry woven apron and sleeves, muslin undergarments and ruffled sleevelets. Excellent condition. Genoese, late 1600s/early 1700s, with remarkable presence enhanced by carving details such as throat hollow and artistic painting especially around her eyes.
