20" (51 cm.) Solid domed bald bisque socket head,dark blue glass eyes in deeply modeled eye sockets,dark eyeliner,short feathered brows,distinctively sculpted nose with flaring nostrils,closed mouth with wide and very full brown sculpted moustache covering the upper lips,well-shaped dimpled chin,brunette mohair wig,Sonneberg composition and wooden fully- jointed body. Condition: generally excellent. Marks: 1308 C Simon & Halibg 8. Comments: Simon and Halbig,circa 1902,the model number was curiously used by the firm for several different models,each distinguished by a letter,in this case the letter C; other models include 1308 D as a moustachioed chimney sweeper,and 1308 E as a child with closed mouth. Value Points: exceptionally rare model of which few examples are known to exist,in fine larger size allowing for full expression of the deeply sculpted features (furrowed age or worry lines at the forehead,below the eye sockets and cheeks. original wig,body,and wearing well-detailed original woolen Tyrolean costume.
