17" (43 cm.) w. x 18"h. x 14"d. A wooden box in the shape of a child-sized school desk hinges
open to reveal the front facade of a school with clock,doors,windows and signed "Ecole". Within
the "desk" room is a bisque-head,glass-eyed teacher and six all-bisque students. She holds a
rod,and when wound,music plays and she moves her head and arms as though instructing. There
are three sets of benches and desks,a dunce desk,chair,bench and black board with teaching
panel,clock,globe,bell,various maps,and key for winding the mechanism. Excellent
condition,small stain on lithographed paper floor. French,circa 1900.
