17" (43 cm.) All-wooden carved polychromed figure of older man, bald pate with flowing greying hair at sides and back of head, deeply-inset enamel eyes, strong aquiline nose, slightly-parted lips in downcast expression, row of teeth, shaded grey moustache and chin stubble, one-piece head and torso, mortise and tenon-jointing at shoulders, elbows, hips and knees, painted white stockings and flat black shoes. Condition: generally excellent. Genoese, early-1700s, attributed to the workshops of Anton Maria Maragliano, the gentleman with deeply-sculpted age lines and gaunt cheeks is wearing original silk and homespun costume with matching long tail jacket and buttoned vest.
