Description
35" (89 cm.) w. x 17"h. x 17"d. A wooden-framed kitchen with angled sides has warm honey-tone finish on the exterior walls, frame, and front posts, which matches the grooved wooden floor and half-high grooved wainscoting that extends around the entire windowless room. Furniture comprises an imposing cupboard of matching door with insert cream-painted doors with stenciled floral design; matching work stand with multiple drawers, corner niches, and wire pie-safe door at the front; table, wooden seven-drawer spice rack with German names; Maerklin tin stove with brass towel bars all around; white wooden wood bin; and a tin tray stand. The kitchen is notably decorated with a 32+ piece porcelain kitchen set on white background with dainty flowers, and including such pieces as hanging salt and honey boxes, sieve, pudding mold, candle holder, mortar and pestle, covered cheese tray, bread box,and even a matching wall clock. The kitchen achieves its name from the more than 25 firehouse-red pieces of tinware or enamel that hang on its walls or crowd its shelves, tables and stoves, and includes a bed-warmer and a cutlery tray filled with bone-handled utensils. Other contents include a grey tin bread box with red stencil design, red metal pneumatic device, tin paper cutter, tin wall-hanging water sink with faucet, wooden tray with cast iron meat slicer, red tin baby carriage, and a wall-hanging red telephone that actually rings. A boy and girl with bisque head, probably by Kling, wearing original folklore costumes, attend the room, along with chickens and cats. Excellent condition. Germany, circa 1910,a wonderfully-filled colorful kitchen with rare accessories. Provenance: acquired by Hanne Buktas from the estate auction of the celebrated Herblingen Castle of Switzerland.
