Description
19" (48 cm.) All carved wood depicting a young village burgher, his polychromed head turned sharply to the side, carved flat-topped hat with wide brim, long flowing carved curls, enamel inset eyes, well-defined carving of nose and mouth, closed lips, one piece head and torso with elongated throat, mortise and tenon-jointing at shoulders, elbows, hips and knees, carved separated fingers, wearing early (faded) velvet gentleman's town suit, tapestry vest, shirt, twill striped leggings over painted shoes. Excellent condition. Genoese, late 1600s, another example is shown in the book Il Presepe Genoese, page 47.
