Description
47" (119 cm.) w. x 39"w. x 21"h. A wooden two-story dollhouse with roof pediment and
chimney is painted original grey with dark green trim around the arched and tall windows and
roof. A faux-front door has eight decorated panels and is surmounted by a red-glass
window. The house hinges open in three panels at the front for easy access to both floors, and
each room is fitted with original wall and floor papers in a rich array of colors and patterns.
The upper floor has two rooms with an opening paneled door between; the upper portion of
the door is enhanced with original etched glass designs. There are 3 back wall windows and
one on each side, all curtained, and a staircase entry with railing that matches the finish on the
door. A grand-sized two-window kitchen dominates the lower floor and has original wooden
furnishings whose finish matches the woodwork of the room; these include a large cupboard
with pierced brass "pie-safe" doors,a smaller cupboard below the side window,a wall-length
shelf,a smaller shelf,as well as an early tin hanging cupboard with wire-screen front
door, possibly Rock and Graner. Finally, the house is graced with a wonderful entry
room, dominated by a two-level staircase with landing that looks out though a large arched
window. The stairs are covered with a very nice paper-lithography to simulate woven
carpet, and there is a built-in hall rack. The exterior house is painted and finished with
window frames and trim all around, and a cast iron carrying handle is at each side. Excellent
all-original condition,with later added curtains. Germany,mid-19th century.
