Description
16"(41 cm.) w. x 14"h. x 9"d. A wooden-framed shop with painted ochre and red front and
sides and having high arched crest is decorated with original colorful lithographs that depict
buyers seeking the far corners of the world to find exotic foods and spices. The store front is
labeled Specerey-Handlung/the Grocer's shop/Epicerie"in three languages indicating the
maker's plans to market internationally,although the 12 drawers at the store back with
lithographed paper cover to simulate carving are only labeled in German. The floor has
original lithographed-paper to simulate tile,and the shelves carry a nice supply of old labeled
tinware,wooden ware,and other groceries. There is a lithographed tin scale,metal cash
register,and other supplies,along with a paper-mƒch‚ doll storekeeper. Fair/good condition
with fading and wear to original finish,Germany,G. Hoffman. A nearly identical model
appeared in their 1899 catalog,as shown in Cieslik,Lexikon der Puppenstuben und
Puppenhauser,
