13" (33 cm.) Solid domed paper mache shoulder head with oval-shaped face and slightly-elongated throat, black enamel eyes, painted all-around lashes, slightly-feathered brows, closed mouth with slight smile, blushed cheeks, brunette very fine human hair wig inserted into center slit on dome and arranged with little ringlet curls and a tightly-woven braided chignon, with original silk ribbon, body of tightly-woven muslin with stitch-jointing, nicely-formed paper mache arms to above the elbows with distinctive fingers and thumbs, oil-painted stockings and yellow slippers with knee-high lacing. Condition: generally excellent, light craquelure on back shoulderplate. Comments: attributed to Andrea Voit, circa 1830. Value Points: exceptionally beautiful and wonderfully-preserved early paper mache with original elaborate wig, artistic painting, unusual body upon which is still tacked the original sheer muslin dress with rose silk ribbons and flowers, over polished chintz undergarments, and with original silk-covered woven bonnet.
