Description
17" (43 cm.) Seated upon a gilded wooden chair with fancy carving is a bisque-head doll, posed as though knitting, having bisque socket head, blue glass paperweight inset eyes, closed mouth, blonde mohair wig over cork pate, carton torso and upper legs and arms, wearing coral and ivory silk antique costume. When wound she nods her head forward and back as though examining her knitting, while her hands move back and forth in a realistic knitting activity, while music plays. The scene is displayed upon original red velvet wooden base. Condition: generally excellent, music and mechanism function well. Marks: Depose Tete Jumeau Bte SGDG 5. Comments: Roullet et Decamps, circa 1890, the model appeared in their catalog as "Bebe Tricoteur", #256. Value Points: charming homespun theme with well-functioning realistic movement.
