Description
57"w. x 21"d. x 21"h. (42àh. with legs,57"h.with tower and legs). Grand-sized wooden framed doll rooms are highlighted by a back corner cupola room with (detachable) wooden shingled tower with widow's walk with fancy balustrade, and high steeple. The exterior of the house has original grey paint and some decorative stone work. Each of the windows in the house is actually leaded in the Renaissance style, the three windows in the cupola room with arched tops and hinging-open double windows below; and the window panels in the rooms are each three sectioned, heavily leaded, and hinge open. The floor in the cupola and in the smaller room are beautifully laid with wooden flooring in a parquet herringbone, with star design in the center of the cupola floor. The grand room has plain wooden flooring with woven carpet. The delightfully-rounded cupola is slightly raised with one-step entry and a shapely balustrade. There is an elaborately paneled wooden door between the rooms, and original cornices on the windows and doors which support velvet draperies. The wallpaper is old,and the there is a fine pressed card-paper wainscoting and chair rail in the grand room. There are three silver or gilded metal chandeliers. The house rests upon its own original four shapely legs (which are detachable). The house has its original furnishings. Of significance, dining room and bedroom sets are of luxury quality in unusual designs. The dining set is of heavily carved oak with original rare leather upholstery on the sofa and chairs. The sofa is ornamented with gilded metal lionÞs head and tiny brass studs, and the six dining chairs have unusual leg designs. There is a matching buffet, table and dessert buffet, and the table is generously laden with early pewter service. The eight-piece bedroom ensemble of richly- grained oak inlaid with stained-red wood panels comprises two fitted beds, two nightstands, armoire, dressing table, marble top dresser, and another small cabinet. The house is well-peopled,and there are various accessories and paintings; of special note an ornate silver and gilded pineapple-shaped urn. Excellent condition overall, some faux-stones missing from exterior. Probably German,late-19th century. A silvered centerpiece suspends from the draperies with 1893 date is also included. The house was previously exhibited in the Puppenstuben Museum of Landsberg Toy Museum near Munich, and is exceptional in its unique features,as well as having its original furnishings.
