Description
40"w. x 15"d. x 15"h. A wooden-framed house has three windowed rooms,each with a hinged
door opening into the next room. The rooms are fronted by pilasters with architectural detail
and applique gesso decorations in the shape of tassels, and the house exterior and base are
painted original tan and ochre with dark brown striping; the windows are framed on the
exterior. Each interior room is finished with original elaborate wallpapers and floor paper. The
interior doors are finished on both sides with lithograph paper to simulate elaborate
paneling, have silvered knobs, and the door in the middle room is framed with elaborate
wooden cornices and has its original cream color with gold striping. Each of the windows has
an elaborate wooden cornice to match the door cornices; the two outer rooms have square
three-part windows with inner-opening lower windows, and the middle room has a very large
five-part window with arched upper section. Excellent condition, completely original with
some typical minor paint and paper rubs, water stain on lower bottom salon wall, and missing
cornice crest on large window. The rooms are unsigned, but are likely by Moritz Gottschalk
based upon stylized columns, silvered door and window knobs, and base construction. Circa
1900.
