Description
58"w. x 18"h. x 15"d. The grand wooden two-room arrangement with ochre-painted exterior
walls and decorative front pilasters has two rooms in addition to a stepped sun room and
bathroom. There is a wide center back window with 4 small panes above 4 tall narrow panes;
flanked by 2 three-pane windows. The door between the rooms and the bathroom door is
cream-painted with gold striping,and each has Gottschalk silver knob. The wide salon
features an extended sun room alcove at the back with step risers flanked by columns and
framed by an elaborate fretwork and balustrade. There are embroidered silk curtains,old
wallpaper and original parquet lithographed paper floor,and hanging ceiling lamp. The
bedroom has old wall paper and border,original parquet lithographed paper floor,side window
with curtain,and a little bathroom closet at the back in which is a toilet. The house is pencil
numbered 5444 on the underside. Furnishings: original luxury-grade Gottschalk furniture is
in both rooms,all with faux-mahogany finish,gold striping,some with applique metal trim,and
the upholstered pieces with pale green silk. The furnishings were all shown in the 1906
Moritz Gottschalk catalog (see Cieslik's Moritz Gottschalk,1892-1941,page 89) and comprise:
sofa with grand surround (model 3886),desk (model 3888),hall mirror (model 3889),table
(model 3890),four straight chairs (two with arms) (models 3891,3893),pedestal (3895),framed
print (3897),as well as two beds,faux-marble top dresser and two nightstands (model 3998
ensemble),and two curved low-back chairs.Excellent condition. Germany,Moritz
