Description
15" (38 cm.) All-wooden carved polychromed figure of very slender bearded man, his head tilted sharply to the side, brown deeply-carved tousled and unruly hair, large inset enamel eyes, aquiline nose, downcast closed lips, carved beard and sideburns, one-piece head and torso, mortise and tenon-jointing at shoulders, elbows, hips and knees, wearing very fine original aristocratic costume of silk and velvet with homespun ribbon-edged leggings, long coat with hand-stitched button holes. Condition: generally excellent. Genoese, mid-1700s, attributed to the later workshop of Anton Maria Maragliano.
