Description
46" w. x 19"h. x 21"d. Two wooden-framed doll rooms with decorative half-columns at the
front and all-around cornice molding have dove-tailed construction and original exterior
paper to simulate wood-grain. There are four large three-paned windows with hinged bottom
panes, and a well-paneled double door that opens between the two rooms; there are bone
knob handles at the windows and door. Each window has its original rare gilded-metal
drapery valences with elaborate filigree design. The floors have original matching paper
lithographed in parquet design. The smaller room has daisy-pattern wallpaper that matches
the daisy design in one of the three lithographs hanging on the wall. The salon is wallpapered
in a rich textured paper with complementary ceiling border; its cranberry color and the color
of the lined silk draperies are what give the house its name,"The Cranberry Room". The room
retains some furnishings and accessories, viz. an ormolu six-arm chandelier (two missing milk
glass shades) with original bracket; silk carpet with metallic trim; superb early carved fireplace
(unattached) with brass lining, fender, grate and lionÞs head coal hod; Italianate carved wooden
mantel mirror with gold leaf finish; two tall ormolu candle sticks; fine porcelain statuary
marked G.M.; and a very fine English oak roll-top desk with carved details. Germany, circa
1880. Excellent condition of the early beautiful room with rare details of bone handles and
gilded metal drapery valences.
