Description
37"w. x 18"h. x 16"d. (and 4" d. alcove). Of finely grained oak with natural finish,the two-
room box features richly ornamental pilasters with unusual spiral-threaded balls and fluted
columns. Very detailed oak wainscoting extends around the entire parlor, framing a set-back
window alcove and centering an ornate door frame that leads to the second room. Oak ceiling
molding with decorative corbels extends around the room above the early wallpaper, and there
is a lithographed paper parquet floor that is repeated in the second room. Three graduated-
width stairs lead to the railed alcove that looks out with center-opening tall windows below
an arched window; each of the windows is decorated with etched glass designs (as is the
curtained bedroom window). The bedroom has cabbage-rose wallpaper, curtains of dotted
Swiss fabric extending from original wooden cornice with gilded-metal trim, woven carpet and
gilded shell-shaped sink. Included with the rooms is a set of dark oak richly carved parlor
furnishings comprising a settee, two arm chairs and four side chairs each with original forest
green velvet upholstery and fringe, with matching dining table, writing desk with mirrored
back, and dessert buffet, that was originally found with the house. Excellent condition.
Germany, circa 1890. An exceptionally detailed house in superb condition.
