Description
20" (51 cm.) Solid domed bisque head with rounded facial modeling and lovely pale
bisque,small dark blue glass inset eyes,dark eyeliner,painted lashes,lightly feathered
brows,accented nostrils and eye corners,rose blushed eyeshadow,open mouth,shaded lips,row
of tiny teeth,carton torso containing clockwork mechanism,composition arms and lower
legs,kid-over-metal hinged hips. When keywound,the doll turns his head,waves its arms and
legs,crying "mama". Condition: generally excellent. Marks: Aux Enfants Sages,Guiton,Succ.
Passage Jouffroy,Paris (body label). Comments: Jules Steiner's Bebe Gigoteur,circa
1875,presented by the prestigious Parisian doll shop of Aux Enfants Sages. Value Points:
bebe wears her original bronze green silk dress with matching straw
bonnet,undergarments,brown leather rosette shoes,and is preserved in her original wooden
box with a fulsome and original trousseau,as shown. The doll,named Madelaie,was originally
owned by a child Louise Malden,and was preserved in its original Parisian family until its
acquisition by Vera Bryant.
