Description
16" (41 cm.) Bisque socket head with very full cheeks, blue glass paperweight inset eyes, dark eyeliner, painted lashes, rose blushed eye shadow, brushstroked brows, shaded nostrils, closed mouth with delicately-shaded outlined lips, pierced ears, brunette hand-tied human hair wig over cork pate, French composition and wooden eight-loose-ball-jointed body with straight limbs. Condition: generally excellent. Marks: 9 (?illegible, on head) Jumeau Medaille d'Or Paris (body). Comments: Emile Jumeau, circa 1878. Value Points: the premiere bebe, winner of Medaille d'Or at the 1878 L'Exposition Universelle in Paris, has original body and body finish, and is wearing original aqua dress with silk ribbons and white cut-work trim, undergarments, socks, aqua shoes with silk rosettes signed "E. Jumeau Paris Med. d'or" (one sole missing) and original Jumeau earrings. Private collection Lorna Lieberman.
