Description
24" (61 cm.) Standing upon a bronze-velvet covered flat base is a bisque-head gentleman
with brown glass paperweight inset eyes,painted lashes,brush-stroked brows,accented
nostrils and eye corners,slightly-parted lips,pierced ears,blonde mohair wig,cork pate,carton
torso and legs,bisque forearms. He holds an elegant cigarette holder in his right hand and an
ormolu lorgnette in the other,and when wound,he lifts the lorgnette,then lowers it,then lifts
the cigarette holder,takes a pull,exhales,and turns head from side to side. Condition:
generally excellent,silk worn on jacket tails. Marks: Tete Jumeau Bte SGDG 4 (head) original
Lambert key. Comments: Leopold Lambert,circa 1890,his Smoking Marquis was a favored
model of the firm; the realistic smoking action working through a series of hidden internal
tubing. Value Points: rare automaton wearing his factory original Marquis costume including
tricorn hat,with rare accessories,is beautifully-preserved.
