Description
12" (30 cm.) Porcelain solid domed head with flat-cut neck socket, 90 degree neck socket, sculpted brown hair shaded onto the forehead and drawn from face into short pageboy curls behind the sculpted ears, yellow headband, painted blue eyes with red and black upper eyeliner, single-stroke brows, circle accents at nostrils, closed mouth with pertly-shaped lips, composition shoulderplate and lower lips, twill upper arms, midriff and upper legs, porcelain lower arms and legs, antique costume. Condition: generally excellent. Comments: Germany, circa 1860, the model was inspired by the Japanese play doll which had just been introduced to the European market. Value Points: rare doll with original body, painted hair band, holding matching miniature 7" doll (small repair at back shoulderplate). Private collection Lorna Lieberman.
