Description
17" (43 cm.) Bisque swivel head on kid-edged bisque shoulder plate with modeled bosom and
shoulder blades, very full cheeks and throat,amber-brown glass paperweight inset eyes, dark
eyeliner,painted lashes,mauve-blushed eye shadow,brush-stroked and multi-feathered
brows, accented nostrils and eye corners, open mouth, tongue, blonde mohair wig over cork
pate, original kid bebe body with scalloped-collarette and leg edges,one-piece curved upper
kid arms, bisque lower arms with separately-sculpted fingers, bisque legs from above the
knees to the feet, open feet bottoms. The tongue was designed to "stick out" to accept a little
biscuit, then retreat into the mouth,"tipping" into the tin funnels that run the length of the
body and allow the biscuit to be "digested" and fall out of the opening in the foot. Condition:
generally excellent. Marks: 6 (and circle/dot symbol on head) 1.T (shoulder plate) (original Bru
paper label on chest). Comments: Leon Casimir Bru,the "Bebe Gourmand" was first advertised
by him in 1882,described as "delicieux bebe a surprise",made for only a very short period of
time. Value Points: among the rarest of the Bru bebes, having exemplary quality of
sculpting, painting, bisque, wig, and with some costume elements including red kidskin shoes
signed "Bru Jne Paris" that create a splendid bebe,in addition to its rare deposed "gourmand"
system.
