15" (38 cm.) All-carved wood with one-piece head and torso, polychromed head carved as though looking to the side, deeply carved dark brown hair in centerpart with long flowing curls, deeply-inset enamel eyes, definition of scowling lines at forehead and around the closed mouth, lightly-painted moustache, mortise and tenon-jointing at shoulders, elbows, hips and knees, painted black boots under silk leggings and slippers, wearing velvet short pants and green velvet long fitted jacket with gold braid edging, silk fitted vest, shirt. Excellent condition. Genoese, mid-1700s, attributed to Pasquale Navone. The regal portrait gentleman has wonderful stern features, superb carving of hands.
